HIGH WATER

Published 2021

JOURNEYS is a poignant, often humorous tale of resilience, divinity, and the magic of human connection. It invites readers to reflect on their own journeys of healing and the transformative power of finding purpose, and perhaps even soul mates, when they least expect it.

In this sequel to HIGH WATER, young adventuress Frankie returns to California from Venice, Italy when the global pandemic hits, ending her Italian dream job at the self-proclaimed World’s Most Beautiful Bookstore.

Once home, Frankie continues to grapple with scars of her troubled childhood, the grief of losing her parents at a young age, and the emotional instability of living through a series of crises, and social and political unrest. With the help of her two best friends, Frankie reconnects with her passion for storytelling via podcasting, a healing journey where she discovers that soul mates and true connection come in many forms. When Frankie and her beloved grandma embark on a life-changing adventure to Arizona’s Grand Canyon, she experiences the majesty and power of Mother Nature by confronting her deepest fears. She learns to embrace vulnerability, uncovering layers of her past that have held her captive, and discovers what it truly means to love and be loved.

Interwoven with Frankie’s journey is a collection of interconnected short stories of soul mates through time and space navigating their extraordinary bond across various epochs and celestial realms, discovering that true love knows no boundaries.

HIGH WATER is a story of emotional healing, friendship, and the power of pursuing one’s dreams against all odds, while exploring the beauty of community and the transformative nature of art.

In the heart of Los Angeles, 22-year-old Frankie is in her senior year at UCLA. Her dreams of becoming a successful actress are overshadowed by the harsh realities of an industry and a system that often dismisses her talent due to her heritage. Frustrated, disenchanted, haunted by grief from her parents’ tragic death, and desperate for a change, with the emotional support of her loving grandma Frankie decides to spend her first summer after graduation in Venice, Italy – a city she’s longed to explore.

Amid the backdrop of Venice’s rich history and culture, Frankie finds solace in unexpected friendships and extended family. As the summer unfolds, she begins to heal from her trauma and rebuild her shattered spirit, which enables her to redefine her aspirations, helping her find her life’s purpose.

Meanwhile, Frankie’s journey of self-discovery is mirrored by the story of another young woman in Venice’s ancient past who also struggles to find her place in a world that challenges her perceptions of identity and belonging. Through laughter, heartbreak, courage, and the feminist threads that bind them, both young women confront the pain of their childhoods and discover their inner strength.
